Formula 1 racer Lewis Hamilton has described his pleasure at seeing his consistent approach to this year's competition paying off. Speaking to the BBC ahead of this weekend's race in Monaco, the British driver said his plan to focus on regular points scoring was yielding results. "I've scored points at every race and I'm only eight points off the lead of the championship," Hamilton said. "That's really encouraging. It's reassuring to see my approach pay off." Despite not having won a race during the 2012 championship so far, Hamilton is sitting in a comfortable third place behind Ferrari's Fernando Alonso and Red Bull's Sebastian Vettel who are tied on points at the top of the table. Hamilton added: "It's important not to lose sight of the fact that, despite pushing for the win, consistency and scoring decent points is currently the most sensible way to tackle this world championship." McLaren teammate Jenson Button will also be pushing for the win on Sunday, having finished in third position at the European circuit last year and taken the chequered flag in 2009. A rain-interrupted second practice session at the track this afternoon saw Button go fastest around the track, while Hamilton was 11th quickest.
