Roadworks across England are set to be lifted over the coming days ahead of the Queen's Diamond Jubilee celebrations. Millions of Brits are set to take to the roads, with many workers being allowed an extra day off work on June 5, in addition to the spring bank holiday next Monday. To help ease traffic congestion, the Highways Agency has announced it will lift almost 90 per cent of its roadworks between Friday, June 1 and Wednesday, June 6. Experts expect Friday evening and Saturday morning will be the busiest periods as people set off for short breaks and day trips. Roads Minister, Mike Penning, said: "For the Diamond Jubilee bank holiday, the Highways Agency is completing or lifting nearly nine out of every ten sets of roadworks on motorways and trunk roads in England. "This means that 99 per cent of the strategic road network will be clear of roadworks over the bank holiday period. More lanes will be open and speed restrictions will be lifted from roadworks where it is safe to do so." As usual, drivers have been advised to check weather and travel conditions before setting off.
