Models from auto manufacturer Skoda have been heralded as the cheapest to repair, in light of recent research.
While some repairs are expected - such as the odd chip in a windscreen or wear and tear on the tyres - unexpected bills can harm a driver's finances and the study by Warranty Direct found the Czech manufacturer's motors limited the damage.
Looking at 250 types of car from 30 vehicle producers during a one-year period, the company discovered Skoda owners paid an average of £215.94 in repairs.
This figure was less costly than those paid by Citroen, Renault, Peugeot and Ford models, which came in second to fifth place respectively.
Despite the findings, Warranty Direct Managing Director Duncan McClure Fisher explained other factors should be taken into account when deciding which motor to invest in.
"Repair bills may be low but the regularity with which you visit the garage could be high, or vice versa," he explained.
Meanwhile, Skoda has announced an extension to the VAT-free offer to include Octavia, Fabia and Roomster models.
