Motorists with environmental concerns may be interested to hear Toyota has released details of its new Prius model.
The vehicle will be a full hybrid motor, capable of running on petrol, electricity or a combination of both.
Ninety per cent of the car's components have been redesigned since the previous model hit showrooms, making the auto lighter, more compact and efficient.
The manufacturer has also increased power by 22 per cent to 134 bhp, while fuel economy has been improved by ten per cent to 72.4 mpg on a combined cycle.
Furthermore, CO2 emissions have been cut by 14 per cent to 89 g/km.
The new 1.8-litre VVT-I petrol engine will use the Atkinson cycle to boost its efficiency.
Alistair Darling's Budget last week contained a number of moves to help make transport greener, including a promise to help fund electric cars from 2011.
Those looking to buy a new Prius may also be able to get some money off through the vehicle scrappage scheme, introduced by the government recently.
