Parents playing cabbies waste five hours a week

A third of mums and dads waste five hours every week sitting in their cars waiting to drive their sons and daughters between their home and social and sporting events.

Research carried out by Sainsbury's car insurance found that in total, UK parents spend an average of 65 hours each year waiting in vehicles as their children attend music lessons, games practice sessions, and social events. The total amount of man hours wasted each year comes to 597 million, according to a report by the Daily Mail.

Sainsbury's found that fathers were more likely to be patient when it came to waiting for their children. Men spent an average of an hour and 23 minutes a week waiting around, while mums only hung about for an average of one hour and four minutes.

Luckily for youngsters, parents tend not to leave the meter running while their offspring get on with whatever activity they're involved in. If parents in London decided to start charging their children for providing a chauffeur service, little ones could expect to face a typical annual bill of just under £10,000 including travel and waiting time.
