MP Visit Shines Spotlight on ADAS Growth and Skilled Techs
Auto Windscreens recently had the pleasure of hosting Dr Scott Arthur, MP for Edinburgh South West, at our Edinburgh Service Centre on Saturday, 25 January. A member of the Transport Committee, Dr Arthur’s visit offered an exciting opportunity to highlight the impact of Advanced Driver Assistance Systems (ADAS) on the automotive glass industry and to discuss the importance of nurturing a skilled workforce.
In conversations with our Managing Director, James MacBeth, Dr Arthur was keen to learn more about:
- The increasing demand for ADAS calibrations in Scotland
- The 20% rise in windscreen replacements since 2019, with 25% of jobs now involving ADAS recalibrations in 2024 – an 800% increase in volume compared to five years ago
- The critical role of apprenticeships and training in developing the next generation of technicians
- How evolving vehicle technology is influencing safety, quality and overall industry practices
“We had meaningful discussions about the rapid advancements in vehicle technology and the growing importance of ADAS calibrations,” commented James MacBeth. “As the automotive sector continues to evolve, so does the need for skilled technicians and precise ADAS calibration. We truly appreciate Dr Arthur’s visit and his support in highlighting these issues.”
Dr Arthur added: “I was impressed by the commitment of Auto Windscreens and its Managing Director, James MacBeth, to apprenticeships and staff development. It was great to learn about their commitment to training people in the trade and how advanced car technologies are making windscreen replacement a tech-driven skilled job. It’s an approach that will help employees and the community everywhere, including here in Edinburgh South West.”
Auto Windscreens’ commitment to delivering top-quality service remains at the core of everything we do. Dr Arthur’s visit underscores the vital role our technicians play in enhancing road safety through precise installations and calibrations. With continued collaboration and innovation, we look forward to shaping a safer, more efficient future for the automotive glass repair industry.
