Auto Windscreens Unveils Glass Damage Trends and Solutions

Monday, 19 Aug 2024

Auto Windscreens has unveiled significant insights from its recent data analysis, highlighting the impact of road conditions on vehicle glass damage. According to the findings, over 80% of glass claims this year are due to ‘stone’ and ‘pothole’ damage.

Key Findings:

  • Stone Damage: Accounts for 78% of glass claims.
  • Pothole Damage: Introduced as a category in 2019/2020, this type of damage is steadily increasing.
  • Combined Impact: Together, stone and pothole damage constitute the majority of claims.

These findings align with the RAC’s Report on Motoring, which indicates that 56% of drivers now consider road conditions a top concern. Claire Church, Director of Service Delivery at Auto Windscreens, commented, “Reasons for damage can be subjective from a customer’s point of view, but we can assume ‘stone’ damage is caused by the state of our roads. The introduction of ‘pothole’ as a damage category has shown a year-on-year increase, further emphasizing this issue.”

Recommendations for Drivers:

  • Report Road Damage: Make a mental note of all potholes and road damage on your journeys and report them online.
  • Reduce Speed: Keeping speeds down can help minimise the risk of damage when these obstacles cannot be avoided.

By taking these precautions, we can collectively work towards reducing the incidence of glass damage.

Your continued support and partnership are invaluable to us. By sharing these insights, we aim to better understand the challenges we face and work together to find effective solutions.
