MP Toby Perkins Visits Auto Windscreens Headquarters

Friday, 14 Mar 2025

Toby Perkins MP, who represents Chesterfield and Staveley, visited Auto Windscreens’ head office to discuss our apprenticeships, the evolving role of automotive technicians, and our work with electric vehicles.

A Meaningful Discussion

As one of Chesterfield’s largest employers, it was an honour to host Toby at our dedicated Training Centre. He met current apprentices, observed a vehicle safety systems (Advanced Driver Assistance Systems) calibration, and learned about the complexity of modern automotive maintenance. Our Managing Director, James MacBeth, explained our ambition to have the role of automotive technicians recognised as a skilled profession and highlighted the apprenticeship levy challenges in Scotland, Northern Ireland, and Wales.

Encouraging Future Talent

Toby Perkins commented on the importance of proper vehicle safety systems calibration and how technology has made technician roles more complex. He spoke with our apprentices and praised the experience they gain through hands-on learning. He also encouraged school leavers to consider apprenticeships as a valuable career path.

We appreciate Toby’s time and support in emphasising these key industry issues, and we look forward to working with him as we continue to develop skilled jobs in Chesterfield and beyond.
