Jonathan Lord Wins Clearly The Best 2026

Thursday, 1 Oct 2026

Celebrations were in full swing at Auto Windscreens last week as Jonathan Lord from Portsmouth was crowned the company’s ‘Clearly The Best’ Technician for 2026.

The annual competition, which this year marked its 10th anniversary, brings together the very best technicians from across the business to showcase their skills, knowledge and dedication. After progressing through regional heats and competing against finalists from around the UK, Jonathan emerged as the overall winner at the national final held at Auto Windscreens’ headquarters and training centre in Chesterfield on 24 September.

A familiar face in the competition, Jonathan’s victory was made even more special after reaching the final on five occasions before finally taking the top spot.

The competition tested a wide range of skills that technicians use every day, including glass repair, windscreen replacement, rear door glass replacement and a traditional rubber fitment windscreen removal and refit. Finalists were also assessed on customer service, health and safety, and the environmental and social responsibilities that play an increasingly important role in the industry.

Jonathan impressed throughout the day and was awarded the coveted BE57 TEC registration plate for his van, along with a £3,000 prize at an evening celebration held at Chesterfield FC.

Speaking after receiving his award, Jonathan said:

“I’m absolutely delighted to finally have won it. It’s taken five finals to get here, but I’m so pleased. You’ve got to push yourself, show who you are, and just have a go. Don’t be afraid to do it.”

This year's competition showcased the exceptional talent across the Auto Windscreens network. Fellow finalists Craig Foy from Stoke on Trent, Dean Carter from Colchester and Ian Brown from Portsmouth all delivered outstanding performances, with the four finalists bringing a combined 50 years of experience to the event.

Sean Draycott, Operations Director at Auto Windscreens, said:

“Our technicians have a challenging role, and one that’s changing all the time due to advancements in glass technology and the growth of Advanced Driver Assistance Systems. We hold this competition every year because we’re incredibly proud of our technicians, their skills and the way they look after our customers. The finalists this year were outstanding, and I'd like to congratulate them all on their achievements.”

Ten years on from its launch, Clearly The Best continues to be one of the highlights of the Auto Windscreens calendar, celebrating the expertise, professionalism and commitment of colleagues across the business while recognising the people who go above and beyond every day for customers.
