The clocks have gone back, bonfire night is over for another year and Christmas is on the horizon. This can only mean one thing – winter is coming!

Help reduce your chances of a claim over the colder months, especially for a replacement windscreen, by following our top tips on how to best care for your vehicle glass.

A glass chip is more likely to turn into a crack during cold conditions – have your chip repaired to avoid a potential costly windscreen replacement.

Auto Windscreens’ top tips for your customers

  • AVOID POURING BOILING WATER ON GLASS

Pouring boiling water on a windscreen to remove ice or snow could result in the glass cracking or exploding! Use a good quality de-icer or scraper instead.

  • TOP UP ANTI-FREEZE

Use anti-freeze screen wash. Ensure it’s topped up and don’t be tempted to use washing up liquid as an alternative.

  • WIPER BLADES NEED CARE

Try not to pull wiper blades off frozen glass or turn them on if the screen is iced over as the rubber may tear.

  • THINK ABOUT PARKING

Leave your vehicle in a garage overnight or use a windscreen cover to protect against frost. Parking close to a building will also help prevent exposure to the elements.
